Land of Mermaids,Orange, Lemon Groves and Colors.
Prairieville derives its name from the many pastures and prairies once visible from Highway 73 (Jefferson Highway) and Airline Highway, now covered by development. Prairieville began as a quiet community with few people and in recent decades Prairieville has benefited from immigration from Baton Rouge, as high-performing public schools have attracted new residents to the area with a particularly low crime rate.
Prairieville had a population in 2020 of 33,197 if combined it would be the largest city of Ascension Parish. Prairieville is one of the fastest growing areas in Louisiana and the population of Prairieville is greater than the two largest incorporated cities in the diocese, Donaldsonville and Gonzalez combined
