Anna

Living In Anna Offers Residents A Rural Feel

After the American Civil War, the Houston and Texas Central Railroad resumed laying tracks north from Corsica and passed through the area in 1872. By the time Anna was housed in 1883, it had 20 people, two shops, a steam mill and a Baptist church. A post office was also opened that year. In 1885, the railway built a station. Local historian Chester A.

Howell compiled Anna’s brief history into a book titled Anna’s Town, which was presented to October 19th Attendees of Anna’s School Homecoming, 1985. In 1989 an errata page was added to correct some minor errors. In 2019, the Anna Region Historic Preservation Society published “Ignite the Spark in Anna Town” (ISBN 9781799137610), a collection of stories and pictures of early Anna, Texas.
