Distinct unincorporated community in East Baton Rouge
Greenwell Springs is a region in central Louisiana, United States, and a city in the Baton Rouge metropolitan area. It was formerly a unique unincorporated community in East Baton Rouge. In the 1850s, Robert W. Greenwell purchased land in an area now known as Greenwell Springs and began to develop the area into a rural resort built around 10 medicinal springs.
Although the springs are close to each other, each is said to have mineral properties that are distinct from the others. This is thought to indicate that each spring came from a different level in the ground. In April 2005, the unincorporated community of Greenwell Springs became part of the newly formed Territory of City Central.
